A Gathering option gives you the opportunity to get together with family and friends for a simple, dignified funeral service followed by a cremation. You may also spend some time with your loved one prior to the funeral service.
Christchurch Crematorium Chapel services are held Monday to Friday at 10.00am and 2.00pm. AvonPark Chapel services are 10:30am and 2:30pm Monday to Friday.

What’s Included

With dignity, we will transfer your loved one into our care and provide fundamental hygienic services including partial embalming.

One of our funeral directors will visit you at your home or you are welcome to visit us at one of our chapels to finalise arrangements which will include preparation and lodgement of all necessary documentation including the Death Certificate.

A Maple style casket with upholstered lining, handles, nameplate and if you require religious memorabilia.

We will compile and place a funeral or death notice in the newspaper.

There is an opportunity to spend some time with your loved one.

The funeral service may be held at one of our chapels, located in Wigram and Linwood, or an alternative venue which could be a church or residence.

We will arrange a celebrant or clergy to officiate the ceremony and arrange and print 50 service sheets.

A silk flower arrangement will be placed on the casket.

We will take care of the cremation and all required fees. The ashes will be available to you within three working days following the cremation.

Due to the unique options and pricing, full payment is required before the funeral service or the day of cremation.

The Funeral Service
Christchurch Crematorium Chapel, Wigram OR AvonPark Chapel, Linwood (included in this option)
The Christchurch Crematorium Chapel is ideal for most gatherings. This facility has indoor seating for up to 100 guests and full multimedia system, including widescreen LCD, microphone system and CD/DVD player. The Chapel also has onsite parking and catering facilities. Services can be held at either 10am or 2pm.
The AvonPark Chapel offers a convenient alternative in eastern and southern Christchurch. The chapel is set in an acre of landscaped grounds and faces out towards Bromley Park. The chapel seats 175 and is designed to create a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. Subtle lighting and full audio facilities give funeral services that special sense of occasion. Full catering facilities are available with a pleasant lounge area for a gathering after the funeral service. Abundant off-street parking is available, and the garden at the AvonPark Chapel is a constant source of colour and interest. Services can be held at 10.30am or 2.30pm.

Celebrant
Civil celebrant (included in option price). A civil celebrant is a person who is trained to conduct funeral ceremonies. The celebrant can conduct either a religious or non-religious service, depending on family preferences.
Clergy member (included in option price). If a member of clergy is required, this will be discussed with your funeral director.
Music
Your funeral celebrant will ask you what songs you would like played and when during the service. We will source the music and make sure it is played at the appropriate time.

A memorial signature book is a personalised booklet with signature pages on the inside where your guests can enter their thoughts and attendance before and after the service.
Photo Presentations can be created and shown during the service, usually 60-70 photos are included accompanied by music.
Catering
Catering is an additional cost.
Catering is available at our Chapel. The minimum number for catering is 30.
(A lounge clean up fee of $156 applies to catering at our venues)
Hot savouries, club sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee = $14.95 per head

Livestreaming
Livestreaming is an additional cost.

The funeral service is livestreamed (broadcast) via the internet.

Only people invited by the family can log into the broadcast.

The service can be viewed live, or after the event.

The service will be available online for up to 90 days after the event.

Families can pay to make the service available longer if required.

It is possible to download a copy of the service for an extra fee of $39.

Your funeral director will arrange for the livestreaming to be set up.

A single fee of $240 is charged, regardless of how many people are invited to view the service.
Frequently Asked Questions
We will arrange the opportunity for you to spend some time with your loved one either at our Chapel or you may wish to have your loved one at home.
The death certificate is registered online on the day following the cremation and lodged with Births, Deaths and Marriages. It then takes 5-10 working days to be prepared and is posted direct to the Next of Kin as stated on the arrangement form.
One of our funeral directors will contact you once the ashes are ready to be collected. The ashes may be available two days following the cremation.
All artificial joints are recycled and the proceeds are donated to The Canterbury Charitable Hospital, Burnside.
As glass is unable to be cremated, all glasses are donated to the Fred Hollows Foundation.
The flowers get cremated along with the casket, however if you wish to keep the flowers, your funeral director will make sure these are given to you prior.
A death notice is a short message printed in the Christchurch Press on the funeral page.
Typically, a death notice states the full name, date of death, family details, and general service details of the deceased. Your funeral director will assist you to write the death notice.
Due to the unique options and pricing, we do not run credit accounts. Full payment is to be made on or before the funeral service or the day of cremation.
